Spanish stevedores strike called off after agreement with employers

June 29, 2017.- The meeting held this morning in Madrid between the employers Anesco and workers’ organizations with representation in the sector has been closed with agreement between the parties.
Anesco assumes the guarantee of the continuity of the employment of 100% of the workers of the stevedoring and the unions ratify the commitments acquired on 29 March.
Both sides have agreed to open the negotiation of the Fifth Framework Agreement with the aim of improving the competitiveness and productivity of Spanish ports, whose schedule will begin next week and is expected to conclude at the end of September.
For their part, the workers have offered the guarantee of social peace in all companies associated with Anesco, which have demonstrated, like stevedores, to be committed to the sector and its growth through a real and effective negotiation that achieves stability in the docks, essential for its prosperity. In this way, workers’ organizations with representation in the sector call off the strike for all the days in which it was anticipated.
