Petronor to install an early detection system for hydrocarbons at sea

Petronor will install in its maritime terminal of the Port of Bilbao a system for the early detection of hydrocarbons on the sea surface that will allow to contain the stains before they impregnate the coastal spaces.

The system, developed jointly by the Repsol Group and Indra technology, uses different sensors and when detecting an incident in the water all the information is collected through infrared and radar images and automatically activates an
alarm in the control center.

All this happens in less than two minutes, either at day or night, even in adverse weather conditions, which allows to “maximize the reliability and continuous monitoring, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week”, Petronor reported.

After completion of its installation at the Petronor terminal, the system will achieve next month a coverage of 100% of the sea surface of the same, with the precision to detect small amounts of hydrocarbons.

The system will also detect if the stains are the result of own or third-party spills.
